Fallen Leaves
Pleasures lie thickest where no pleasures seem:
There's not a leaf that falls upon the ground
But holds some joy of silence or of sound,
Some spirits begotten of a summer dream.
~Laman Blanchard
This week's Photo Art Friday prompt was "lines". I wanted to pick an image that had lines but also some softness, so I found this photo I took in Occoquan, VA of some leaves on a brick walkway. I like the lines created by the bricks, but also love the random placement of the fallen leaves. I used Bonnie's "Heavenly" texture at Difference/86%. I also used a reverse layer mask and an old engraved book cover to bring in the tiny floral background (Lighten/60%). I also used the artistic effects Dry Brush (Normal/48%) and Cutout (Normal/35%). As always, there were several tweaks in Radlab throughout the process. Mainly, I just played and played till it looked pretty...I could do this all day long. :)

You have been busy, I love this effect, it has a touch of William Morris, beautiful...love that leaf texture effect, it's beautiful, you clever thing!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely, Sherri! I mistook the lines between the bricks for a sort of trellis at first. You certainly achieved your goal of combining lines with a soft effect!
ReplyDeleteyou've got great eye, Sherri. The composition in this photo is wonderful. and I really like your processing!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing difference this processing made. Love all of the colors. I am glad that you showed the original photo, because I would never have "seen" the bricks. How amazing all of the colors are in the brick walkway. Really lovely!
ReplyDeleteLike Bonnie I too thought this was a type of fencing or trellis but upon closer examination and reading y9our explanation the brick walkway comes through loud and clear. What a great picture and processing. It's very visually interesting.
ReplyDeleteOh Sherri, I really love this! The photo and the way the leaves fell is incredible by itself, but your edit is just perfect!!
ReplyDeleteimpresive effect - especially the colour and the way you turned bircks into a liner grid
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing outcome! This is really different from the original, and I love the colors! Wonderful work!
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend:)

What a great transformation, Sherri! The texture fits in perfectly.
ReplyDeleteYour PHoto Art Friday posts are some of my favorite!
ReplyDeleteLove this Sherri I must try out the reverse mask process but I can't remember how to do it ! So many things to try to remember and even though I write it down I then can't read my writing...
ReplyDeleteI love how you edited this one. Great texture!
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous. I love the choices you made to bring out the lines and the beauty of the leaves against the fence. The lighting topped it off ... Very nice!

What a lovely result!
ReplyDeleteVery, very nice. It reminds me too of William Morris and he was a master!
ReplyDeletethis is absotively and posolutely gorgeous, rich with colour, and inspirational. delicious!!
ReplyDeleteThis is just beautiful. Yes William Morris came into my mind too. It took me ages to 'see' the bricks but each time I look I see leaves climbing up on bamboo canes or vine stems. I would love this picture hanging on my wall or as a post card or as a fabric. I just love it!
ReplyDeletethis is really lovely. I thought it was a fence too until I read your description about it
ReplyDeleteBeautiful edit!
ReplyDeleteYou've produced a very beautiful picture, I love the way you have altered and enhanced the colours on both the background and main image. There is also a skill in identifying the good photograph in the first place. Thanks for sharing the original sources, it makes the end result even more interesting.
