A Hint of Autumn

Lord: it is time. The huge summer has gone by.
Now overlap the sundials with your shadows,
and on the meadows let the wind go free.

Command the fruits to swell on tree and vine;

grant them a few more warm transparent days,

urge them on to fulfillment then, and press

the final sweetness into the heavy wine.
~Rainer Maria Rilke

Yesterday, my family and I drove out to the country for the day...Virginia has the most beautiful country roads. We saw some gorgeous sights and it felt almost like fall, except for the extreme heat! We are definitely experiencing an Indian summer here this first week of October, with temps in the high 80's. Despite the heat, we still felt the fall spirit and found a lovely apple cider stand...we stocked up on pumpkin butter, apple butter, local honey, and fresh cider. We ate lunch at a sweet little restaurant in Sperryville and slowly meandered our way back home. It was a great day, and here are a few shots I captured. I'll probably share some more soon because I got quite a few! We're definitely making several trips to the mountains this month to capture the fall foliage with our cameras. This is why I love the month of October!

I'm linking up today with Kathy's weekly Song-Ography prompt, which is "forever autumn". Click HERE to visit her blog and participate! Thanks so much for stopping by.

  7. Oh wow lucky you to be so close to where the fall colors are just spectacular. We have a lot of color here too but not nearly what Virginia has. - Loved that Apple Orchard shot. The barn shot was very pretty too and great job with the sun flare shot through the trees.

  9. Such a great and varied take on autumn. The apple orchard shot and the low POV shot on the front porch (some one's front porch) are my two favorites. Sounds like a great day.

  10. Yesterday, my family drove out to the country for the day.

    My first thought was, "Next time they should let you go with them." It seemed much funnier in my head.

    These pictures are just perfect. Especially like the 4th one. Happy October!

  14. That gourd shot is fantastic. I love the angle and point of view on it. YOu have a way of seeing the "ordinary" in an "extra-ordinary" way. A true talent that is :). Thanks for joining in on Song-ography.

  15. oh yes, love that gourd shot. And we finally got a cold front. It was 100 while I was on the sidelines of the varsity football game on Saturday night and then we woke up to the 60's. It will only be in the 80's for us this week and it feels so good!

  16. I can breathe again, Sherri, just looking at your photos. We (in Texas) have had only two days of cooler temps and it has been so fabulous. I can hardly wait to start seeing things like you've photographed here. Thank you!
