Star Gazing
My heart always timidly hides itself behind my mind. I set out to bring down stars from the sky, then, for fear of ridicule, I stop and pick little flowers of eloquence. ~Edmond Rostand, Cyrano De Bergerac
I am such an avid collector of quotes, if you haven't noticed! A post doesn't feel complete for me anymore unless I include one. For this week's Photo Art Friday, I started with an image I took at The National Zoo...there was a wall in the seal area that had starfish embedded in it. The original photo was very plain, but PSE can make very plain things into beautiful things! I used Bonnie's "Blue Depths" texture at Soft Light/100%, and I also added a pattern from the flyleaf of an old 1800s book (not in copyright) at Pin Light/100%. I used a reverse layer mask so that the pattern appeared only in the background and not on the starfish themselves. Finally, I put the image in Radlab and used several filters to soften it and increase the contrast/tones. Thank you for stopping by!

ReplyDeleteLove your processing here Sherri and i love your quote too! Aren't they wonderful to find and make a perfect work of art to go with them?? I am having lunch later today with one of my friends who has self published, and have not forgotten your question on this as i think very strongly that you are an author waiting to be published. The answer is coming soon... have just been very busy
ReplyDeleteYou are so sweet, Jeanne - thank you! No rush, but I deeply appreciate that you will check with your friend. Have a good weekend!
DeleteAmazing and so beautiful. Love this piece very much. The colors, the texture, the quote...well everything about it. Well done.
ReplyDeleteyour quotes are always an inspiration. I just started a notebook in which I plan to store my favorite quotes. Won't hide that people from PAF were the biggest inspiration to finally do it!

ReplyDeletesherri, of all your art, this is now my all time favorite.
ReplyDeleteExquisite, Sherri. What a beautiful quote - thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteIncredible!! I just love how you create these images..such an inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThis quote is completely new to me, Sherri. It made me pause a long while, too. Which is always a good sign. I think sometimes this is what I most love about sharing my art, with or without words, though usually [read:always] with in my case... It is like offering a gift for no other reason than I CAN and I CHOOSE TO.
ReplyDeleteThe photographic art, on the other hand, well that is something simply exquisite and awe-inspiring. Like you, I see something as part of a whole that as yet does NOT exist. And as fun as it is to play with images and effects, the real fun is sharing it "out loud" and "in front of everybody" without apology.
The recipe part is good, always, yet there is a quality of mystery that remains, the thing that exists in YOU, your vision or your "taking away everything that isn't the elephant" as I heard a sculptor quoted as saying.
I so enJOY the pleasure of getting to know you this way.
I adore quotes too and have a huge collection now. This is a wonderful one that I had never come across before. I love discovering new ones. I also love that showed your sources for your creative transformation. But the sum is always greater than its parts too!
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic! And I love quotes too. I should include more with my photos!
ReplyDeleteSherri, you have created magic! Beautifully done. I've never used the pin light blend mode you know. I am definitely going to try it going forward.
ReplyDeleteHugs
